Edmonton Oilers Sign Depth Forward

The Edmonton Oilers have signed forward Brendan Perlini to a one-year, two-way contract. It will pay him $750,000 at the NHL level.

Perlini spent this past season with HC Ambri-Piotta of the NL. In 21 games, he scored nine goals and recorded 16 points. He last played in the NHL during the 2019-20 season. He suited up in one contest with the Chicago Blackhawks before being dealt to the Detroit Red Wings. With them, he scored a goal and had four points in 39 games.

Perlini is a former first-round pick, as he was taken 12th overall by the Arizona Coyotes in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. Although he never blossomed into a true top-six forward, he should be a nice depth player of the Oilers. He could be in the running for the 13th forward spot if he has a good training camp. Also, in 2018-19 with the Blackhawks, he scored 12 goals in 46 games. Thus, he can provide a bit of scoring in the bottom portion of the lineup when utilized.
