Florida Panthers: 2 Prospects Who Will Make The Team Next Season
Having a strong prospect pool is such an important thing, as it helps determine the future success of all NHL franchises. Although it is always nice to be competitive now, things changes rapidly and it truly is a young man's league. Therefore, it feels right to start a 32-team segment covering them. During it, we will be looking at two prospects from every NHL franchise who could become NHLers next season.
In this piece, let's focus on the Florida Panthers. This is a team that has become very competitive and should be a real threat in the Atlantic Division this upcoming season. They've also been quite busy this off-season, as they have extended Sam Bennett and Carter Verhaeghe, traded for Sam Reinhart and just signed legend Joe Thornton. We also should expect to see some of their prospects get significant time with the NHL club, too. Here are two who come to mind. The future looks quite bright for this club.
Spencer Knight G: With the departure of Chris Driedger, Spencer Knight will be, at a minimum, the backup goalie of the Panthers next season. After a dominant season with Boston College, Knight decided to start his professional career and even got into some NHL action last season. In four regular season games, he went undefeated and sported a .919 SV%. Also, when both Driedger and Bobrovsky struggled in the postseason, Knight ended up playing in two games. He had a 1-1 record with a .933 SV%. Thus, the 20-year-old is ready for full-time NHL action and fans should be excited.
Anton Lundell C: At 19-years-old, it seems as though Anton Lundell is ready for the NHL. In 26 games with HIFK of Liiga, he scored 16 goals and recorded 25 points. He even was one of their alternate captains. He also did quite well in the World Championships for Finland, as he had four goals and seven points in 10 games. Keep in mind, he was playing against NHLers during that tournament and kept up with them easily. This is another fun player to keep an eye on. Even with the addition of Thornton, he should be able to wiggle his way into their lineup often.
