Former First-Round Pick Signs With EIHL Team
In 2012, Griffin Reinhart was selected fourth overall in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft by the New York Islanders. Now, the 27-year-old defenseman is heading to Northern Ireland, as he's signed with the Belfast Giants of the EIHL.
Reinhart has been out of the NHL for awhile now, as he last played for the Edmonton Oilers during their 2017 postseason run. In one game, he registered an assist. Although he is playing for the Vegas Golden Knights in the photo above, that was a preseason game. This occurred after he was taken by them in their Expansion Draft.
Reinhart is also known for being the player traded who allowed the Islanders to draft both Mathew Barzal and Anthony Beauvillier. Therefore, this is a trade that will continue to haunt Oiler fans for years to come.
In 37 career regular season games between the Islanders and Oilers, Reinhart had two assists.
Since leaving North America, Reinhart has played for Kunlun Red Star of the KHL and most recently the Iserlohn Roosters of DEL. In 22 games with the Roosters last season, he scored three goals and had 11 points.
Overall, Reinhart should be a nice addition for Belfast.
