As a result, Detroit has opted to buyout 37 year old forward Frans Nielsen.
Buyout Breakdown:

It never worked out for Nielsen in Motown as he didn't live up to his contract. Last season the 37-year-old recorded only six points in 29 games. His best season with the Red Wings came back in 2016-17 when he tallied 41 points in 79 games, but it was all downhill from there.
Expect a few teams to give him a look at a professional tryout, but at this point it kind of feels like Nielsen's NHL career may be in jeopardy.

One of the last major anchor contracts from the Holland era is gone. After just over two years as GM, Yzerman has cleaned house and completely reshaped the Red Wings. #LGRW https://t.co/X52Xf6lSoD
