Joe Thornton Is Skating With HC Davos
It appears Joe Thornton is preparing himself for a potential 24th season in the NHL. He is once again skating with HC Davos of the NL.
Thornton is no stranger to the team, as he has played for them on three separate occasions. He was a member of them during both NHL lockouts and this past season before the NHL regular season started in January. One has to wonder if this decision means he is hoping to land another NHL contract before next season begins.
In 44 games with the Maple Leafs this year, Thornton scored five goals and recorded 20 points. He showed that he can still contribute fairly well. Perhaps a team would be willing to sign as him a depth forward at a league minimum contract. He still can produce offense because of his pass-first mentality, so he could even work on the power play, too.
In 1,680 career games, Thornton has 425 goals, 1,104 assists and 1,529 points. He is certainly a future Hall of Famer, but he has yet to win the Stanley Cup. Maybe the 42-year-old will want one more crack at it. We shall see.
