Legendary Goaltender Henrik Lundqvist Retires

Henrik Lundqvist has officially retired from the NHL. He will forever go down as one of the top goaltenders to ever play the sport.

Lundqvist missed the entirety of last season due to a heart condition that also required open heart surgery. It would have been first year with the Washington Capitals. He of course spent the entirety of his career with the New York Rangers beforehand. He was able to return to practice with the team this past February, but he wasn't ready for competitive play. He also was hoping he could return this upcoming season, but now that will not come into fruition.

Lundqvist played 887 career games with the Rangers over 15 seasons. In them, he had a 459-310-96 record to go along with a 2.43 GAA and .918 SV%. He won the New York Rangers' MVP award on nine separate occasions, so it is clear to see he was the true star of the team during his prime. He also played in five All-Star games and won the Vezina Trophy in 2012. He was also nominated for it on four other occasions.

With Team Sweden, he won a gold and silver medal at the Olympics, another gold and two silver medals at the World Championships and a bronze medal at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey. Therefore, he had a great deal of success internationally, too.

It's been one amazing career for the legend. Next stop should be the Hockey Hall of Fame.
