Los Angeles Kings: 2 Breakout Candidates For Next Season

With each season that passes, it seems as though every team has players who improve significantly. They often turn out to be prospects naturally, but players who have some experience in the league also can. In this segment, we will be looking at two potential breakout candidates from each team. We will also be setting a max age limit of 26 years old, so older players are not eligible for discussion.

Earlier today, we focused on the Edmonton Oilers. Now, let's move forward to the Los Angeles Kings. The Kings have a lot of solid young players who certainly a capable of breaking out this season. They will be a very fun team to pay attention to because of this. If all goes according to plan, these two players should be able to allow them to be more competitive moving forward.

Gabriel Vilardi C: In his first full season with the Kings, Gabriel Vilardi did well. In 54 games, the 22-year-old center scored 10 goals and recorded 23 points. In 10 games with the team in 2019-20, he had three goals and seven points in 10 games. The 2017 first-round pick has a lot of potential and should be able to see an increase in his offensive game next season. If the team gives him a good amount of playing time, he will leave a large impact.

Quinton Byfield C: Quinton Byfield is a player to keep an eye on next season. He was the 2020 second overall pick for a reason. The 6'4" center not only has a lot of offensive talent, but also is plenty strong enough to handle himself at the NHL already. In 32 games with the Ontario Reign this past season, he scored eight goals and had 20 points. He also made his NHL debut this past season, too. In six games, he had an assist. With his size and the success he had at the OHL level, it is hard not to see him as a potential breakout candidate next season.
