Montreal Canadiens: 2 Prospects Who Could Make The Team Next Season

Having a strong prospect pool is such an important thing, as it helps determine the future success of all NHL franchises. Although it is always nice to be competitive now, things changes rapidly and it truly is a young man's league. Therefore, it feels right to start a 32-team segment covering them. During it, we will be looking at two prospects from every NHL franchise who could become NHLers next season.

In this specific article, we will be looking at the Montreal Canadiens. The Habs are coming off of a magical postseason run that saw them claw their way to the Stanley Cup Final. They will be looking to carry over this success to next season in the deeply competitive Atlantic Division. There are two potential prospects who should join the team next season and help them. One is an absolute slam dunk after his strong postseason debut.

Cole Caufield RW: Cole Caufield is a lock to make the team next season after his amazing postseason. He suited up for 20 games with the team during their run. In them, he scored four goals and had 12 total points. He seems ready to take on a top-six role even though he is still just 20-years-old. In 10 regular season games with the team, he scored four goals and added an assist. It will be interesting to see how the kid performs in his first whole NHL season next year.

Ryan Poehling C: Ryan Poehling became well-known after scoring a hat trick in his first ever NHL game during the 2018-19 season. He ended up playing 27 games the following season with the team, but only had a goal and an assist in them. He spent the entirety of this past season with the Laval Rocket and had success. In 28 games, he scored 11 goals and produced 25 total points. With the departure of fellow center Eric Staal, Poehling could fight his way into the team's bottom-six. At a minimum, though, he should get called up whenever injuries arise.
