Nashville Predators Hope To Sign Filip Forsberg To Extension

The Nashville Predators are looking to sign Filip Forsberg to a long-term extension, according to Robby Stanley of NHL.com. The 27-year-old forward has one year left on his current contract and will be eligible for unrestricted free agency next summer.

Since joining the Nashville Predators, Forsberg has been one of their best players, so it makes sense that they want to re-sign him. In 39 games this season, he scored 12 goals and recorded 32 points. He has been a mainstay in their top-six since the 2014-15 season and the Predators honestly need to keep him around.

This has been an intriguing off-season for Nashville, as they already traded away Ryan Ellis and Viktor Arvidsson in separate deals. However, with the team looking to extend Forsberg, it does seem that they are hoping to avoid a complete rebuild. We also reported earlier this month that the Predators are looking to re-sign Mattias Ekholm, too.

In 497 games with the Predators, Forsberg has 178 goals, 207 assists and 385 points. He also has been effective during the postseason, as he scored 28 goals and recorded 52 points in 71 playoff games.

The Predators have plenty of time to finalize an extension, but it would be best if they do so sooner rather than later.
