New Jersey Devils: 2 Breakout Candidates For Next Season

With each season that passes, it seems as though every team has players who improve significantly. They often turn out to be prospects naturally, but players who have some experience in the league also can. In this segment, we will be looking at two potential breakout candidates from each team. We will also be setting a max age limit of 26 years old, so older players are not eligible for discussion.

In this piece, we will be looking at the New Jersey Devils. The Devils have a lot to look forward to this upcoming season, as they have made a number of acquisitions this summer. Even if they are not a playoff team just yet, they surely are heading in that direction. Expect to see these two players take bigger steps next season.

Jack Hughes C: Jack Hughes made noticeable progress this past season. In 56 games, the 20-year-old scored 11 goals and recorded 31 points. The previous season, he had just 21 points in 61 games. The 2019 first overall pick absolutely should take his offensive game to an entirely different level next season. He looked very solid this season and now that he has more support with Dougie Hamilton and Tomas Tatar, he should be even better. This should be the year that he lives up to the hype.

Yegor Sharangovich F: Out of nowhere, Yegor Sharangovich became one of the best forwards on the Devils. In his rookie campaign this past year, the 23-year-old had 16 goals and 30 points in 54 games. It will not be surprising to see his totals go up, as he should continue to get better with more experience. He has all the potential to become a real scoring threat in this league. It will be exciting to see what he is capable of doing in his second season with the club.
