New Jersey Devils Re-Sign Depth Forward

The New Jersey Devils have signed A.J. Greer to a one-year, two-way contract. It will pay him $750,000 if he plays in the NHL and $130,000 if he remains in the AHL.

The Devils acquired Greer from the New York Islanders when they sent Kyle Palmieri and Travis Zajac there. Greer struggled with the Islanders' AHL affiliate, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, as he only recorded a goal and an assist in 10 games. However, after being dealt, he found his offensive touch with the Binghamton Devils, as he had four goals and 14 points in 16 games. This allowed him to even play a game with New Jersey and he got into a notable fight.

Greer does have some NHL experience besides this, as he played 37 games with the Colorado Avalanche over three seasons. In them, he scored a goal and recorded six points.

Greer is a very physical player who very well could find his way on the NHL team next season. It is always beneficial to have an intimidating player in the lineup. He seems like a potential candidate to be the 13th forward for the Devils. Perhaps he could even fight his way to their fourth-line, too.
