New York Islanders Sign Adam Pelech To Huge Extension
The New York Islanders have signed defenseman Adam Pelech to an eight-year extension. It will have an average annual value of $5.75 million.
Pelech has become a top-of-the-line shutdown defenseman for the Islanders, so this is wonderful news for the team. Re-signing him was one of their biggest priorities this off-season. Now, they have to focus their attention on re-signing other key RFAs Anthony Beauvillier and Ilya Sorokin.AAV $5.75M https://t.co/wOKFLqXrgc

In 56 games this past season, Pelech scored four goals and recorded 14 points. As previously noted, he is a defense-first kind of player, so he will never dominate the scoresheet. However, his ability to stop the league's best forwards is a huge reason why the Islanders have made the Conference Final in back-to-back seasons. He will continue to form a spectacular pair with defenseman Ryan Pulock.
The Islanders now have one of their most integral defenseman locked up for the long-term future. That is something their fans should be quite excited about.
