New York Rangers: 2 Prospects Who Could Make The Team Next Season
Having a strong prospect pool is such an important thing, as it helps determine the future success of all NHL franchises. Although it is always nice to be competitive now, things changes rapidly and it truly is a young man's league. Therefore, it feels right to start a 32-team segment covering them. During it, we will be looking at two prospects from every NHL franchise who could become NHLers next season.
We will be discussing the New York Rangers in this piece. What is so interesting about them is the fact that many of their top young players are already NHL regulars at this point. Therefore, players like Alexis Lafreniere and Vitaly Kravstov will be excluded from this. However, even with this being so, there are still some interesting players of note to pay attention to.
Tim Gettinger LW: Tim Gettinger should have more opportunities to play next season for the Rangers. He may not play every night, but he could their primary AHL call-up or even one of their NHL depth forward. The Rangers are focusing on getting harder to play against, and with Gettinger being 6'6", that alone could help his chances. He also had a strong season in the AHL this past season, as he scored nine goals and recorded 19 points in 23 games. He also has four NHL games under his belt.
Nils Lundkvist D: All signs point to Nils Lundkvist being on the right side of the Rangers' third-pair next season. With the addition of fellow Swedish defenseman Patrik Nemeth, these two could work well as a duo. Lundkvist is known as being an offensive defenseman and his stats don't lie. In 52 games this past season with Lulea HF of the SHL, he scored 14 goals and had 32 points in 52 games. Barring any sudden changes, he should be given the chance to be an NHL regular at the start of next season.
Honorable Mention: Defenseman Zac Jones also should get some playing time yet again this season. However, with the team signing Patrik Nemeth and the team having such a strong left side, he may start the season in Hartford. In 10 games with the team last season, he had four assists. Therefore, when injuries arise, he too should have opportunities with the big-league club.
