Ottawa Senators Re-Sign Filip Gustavsson
The Ottawa Senators have signed goaltender Filip Gustavsson to a two-year extension. It is two-way in year one and changes to a one-way the following season. It will have an average annual value of $787,500.
Gustavsson suited up in nine NHL games this past season and looked quite comfortable. He sported a 5-1-2 record, while also having a 2.16 GAA and .933 SV%. Although the sample size was small, it seems likely that he is ready to be a full-time NHLer. He could form a 1A-1B tandem with Matt Murray, while the latter tries to regain his previous form. Interestingly, they both were acquired from the Pittsburgh Penguins in different deals.#Sens sign G Filip Gustavsson

2 year contract
2-way in year 1, and 1-way in year 2
$787,500 AAV
2021-22: $750,000 / $125,000
2022-23: $825,000
The deal buys Ottawa 1 RFA year and 1 RFA Arb year. https://t.co/iAsWj7uLEy
He also played 13 games with the Belleville Senators this past season, too. With them, he had a 5-7-1 record and a .910 SV%.
If Gustavsson continues to play this well at the NHL level, this could be a steal of a contract. It is very cheap and the 23-year-old may only get better from here.
