Ottawa Senators Re-Sign Filip Gustavsson

The Ottawa Senators have signed goaltender Filip Gustavsson to a two-year extension. It is two-way in year one and changes to a one-way the following season. It will have an average annual value of $787,500.

Gustavsson suited up in nine NHL games this past season and looked quite comfortable. He sported a 5-1-2 record, while also having a 2.16 GAA and .933 SV%. Although the sample size was small, it seems likely that he is ready to be a full-time NHLer. He could form a 1A-1B tandem with Matt Murray, while the latter tries to regain his previous form. Interestingly, they both were acquired from the Pittsburgh Penguins in different deals.

He also played 13 games with the Belleville Senators this past season, too. With them, he had a 5-7-1 record and a .910 SV%.

If Gustavsson continues to play this well at the NHL level, this could be a steal of a contract. It is very cheap and the 23-year-old may only get better from here.
