Ottawa Senators To Name Captain This Season
According to Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun, the Ottawa Senators are expected to name their next captain before the start of the season. The last player who held this role was San Jose Sharks defenseman Erik Karlsson.
He also went on to state that the frontrunners are Brady Tkachuk and Thomas Chabot. That is not all that surprising, as they each have blossomed into very talented players at the NHL level. Their importance to the team is also immensely high.
Tkachuk is entering his fourth NHL season with the Senators. Last season was a strong one for the 21-year-old, as he scored 17 goals and recorded 36 points in 56 games. As he continues to mature, his offensive totals should only go up. He also plays a very gritty game, which makes him a threat in more ways than one. In 198 total games, he has 60 goals, 65 assists and 125 points.
Chabot would also be a fantastic choice. The 24-year-old is a legitimate top-pairing defenseman in this league and seems to improve with each season. In 49 games this past season, he scored six goals and recorded 31 points. The 2018 first-round pick has definitely turned out to be a good one. In 254 career games, he has 35 goals and 150 points.
Either of the two would be a solid captain. Who do you see them choosing?
