Sean Couturier Signs Extension With Philadelphia Flyers

The Philadelphia Flyers have signed Sean Couturier to an eight-year extension. It will have an average annual value of $7.75 million and begins during the 2022-23 season.

Couturier has blossomed into one of the best two-way forwards in the entire league. In 2020, he won his first Frank J. Selke Trophy as the NHL's top defensive forward. He likely will be able to add to that, too.

In 45 games this season with the Flyers, the 28-year-old center scored 18 goals and recorded 41 points. He also has two 76-point seasons under his belt, so it is rather apparent that he can contribute offensively quite well.

In 692 total games with the Flyers over 10 seasons, he has 174 goals, 269 assists and 443 points. He also is an impressive +88.

Extending Couturier is an excellent move by the Flyers, as he was set to become an unrestricted free agent next off-season. He is arguably their most important player moving forward and should be next in line to be captain once Claude Giroux's time is done. He's everything you want in a leader. Overall, this is a very solid deal for a very solid player.
