Seattle Kraken Sign Another Depth Defenseman
The Seattle Kraken have signed Gustav Olofsson to a one-year, two-way contract. It will pay him $750,000 at the NHL level.
Adding Olofsson to the roster is purely a depth move by the Kraken. He has spent the majority of his professional hockey career bouncing between the AHL and NHL. He played this entire season with Montreal's AHL affiliate, the Laval Rocket. In 24 games, he scored a goal and recorded 12 points. He last played in the NHL with the Canadiens during the 2019-20 season. He appeared in three games and was held off the scoresheet.
As a member of the Minnesota Wild, he was given more chances at the NHL level. The 2017-18 season is one to note, as he played in 41 games and had eight assists. In parts of four NHL seasons, Olofsson has played a total of 59 NHL games and has 11 assists. He is still looking for his first career NHL goal.
With all the depth the Kraken have on their backend, it is unlikely that he will make the team on a permanent basis. Yet, it is never a bad thing adding another defenseman with size.
