Tampa Bay Lightning Re-Sign Stanley Cup Final Hero

The Tampa Bay Lightning have re-signed Ross Colton to a two-year contract. It will pay him $1 million the first year and $1.25 million the following one.

Colton became an NHL regular this season and did a mighty fine job in the process. In 30 games this season, the 24-year-old scored nine goals and recorded 12 points. He followed that up with a strong postseason, as he had four goals and six points. Most importantly, though, he scored the Stanley Cup-clinching goal for the team against the Montreal Canadiens. Thus, he already has left a huge mark on the franchise.

Colton should also have more opportunities next season, as the team has lost forwards Blake Coleman, Yanni Gourde, Tyler Johnson and Barclay Goodrow. At a minimum, he will be given third-line minutes and could even get some time on the power play.

Nonetheless, this is a cheap signing for a young player who is already showing good promise. Lightning fans should be ecstatic.
