Veteran Forward Leaves Red Wings, Signs in Switzerland
The Detroit Red Wings didn't want Valtteri Filppula back next season and the veteran has moved on completely from the NHL. He's signed in the Swiss league and will continue his professional hockey career overseas.

Last season the 37-year-old winger recorded 15 points in 38 games and proved to be a great mentor for a lot of the young Red Wings' forwards. Filppula has also spent time with the Philadelphia Flyers, New York Islanders, Tampa Bay Lightning and two stops in Motown.
In total, the former third-round selection of the Red Wings played in 1056 NHL games, scored 197 times and recorded 530 total points. He leaves the NHL making just under $50 million for his career.
