Frank Seravalli was the first to report on the news. The Capitals want to give Samsonov another chance at the crease next season after a horrible performance in the playoffs that ended up with Alex Ovechkin losing his mind on the tender.
The 24-year-old is a former first-round pick who is a big athletic goalie with some more maturing to do. Last season in 19 regular season games, Samsonov posted a 2.69 GAA and a .902 save%.
With Vitek Vanecek back in the fold in Washington, the team appears to have their young duo ready to roll moving forward for the next few years. For now, they both are signed to short term deals and have lots to prove in D.C.
