Winnipeg Jets Expected To Sign Evgeny Svechnikov

According to Ken Wiebe of Sportsnet, the Winnipeg Jets and Evgeny Svechnikov are interested in making a deal.

Svechnikov was drafted 19th overall in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, but has yet to become an NHL regular at this stage. At this said juncture, he has played in 41 games in the league over a handful of seasons. In them, he has scored five goals and recorded 12 points.

With the Red Wings this season, he got his longest stint with the team. He would go on to play 21 games with them. He scored three goals and recorded eight points. He also played in four games with their AHL affiliate, the Grand Rapids Griffins, and had a goal and an assist.

If Svechnikov does indeed sign with the Jets, he could cement himself in their bottom-six with a strong camp. Although he is shoots lefty, he tends to play right wing. There is less competition for him at that position.

It will be interesting to see if a deal comes into fruition. Sometimes a change of scenery can lead to more success, and if Svechnikov joins Winnipeg, he will have a lot of strong offensive players around him.
