2 Potential Landing Spots For Michael Stone
Michael Stone is another veteran player who is still looking for his next contract. In 21 games this past season with the Calgary Flames, he scored two goals and recorded four points. He also played four games with the Stockon Heat and scored two goals. At this point of his career, he may work best as a seventh defenseman. With how frequently injuries occur in this league, it is never a bad thing to add a player like him for depth. These two teams should consider bringing in the 31-year-old defenseman.
Arizona Coyotes: Stone began his career with the Coyotes and had his best years there. Thus, they could be the perfect team for him to try to rebound. Furthermore, they are not necessarily the deepest on the backend, so he would be able to compete for a spot on their bottom-pair. During the 2015-16 season with the team, he also scored six goals and had 36 points as well. Although he would not replicate those totals, perhaps going to a familiar place could help him contribute a little more.
Detroit Red Wings: The Detroit Red Wings could benefit from adding more depth to their blueline. Yet, Stone would primarily be utilized as the seventh defenseman for them. Moritz Seider is expected to make his NHL debut and they have Troy Stecher to round off the right side. However, as we previously stated, injuries will happen and Stone would be a nice replacement for when they do. With the Red Wings rebuilding, it also would not hurt adding another veteran as a mentor.
