3 Destinations for Free Agent Eric Staal

NHL veteran Eric Staal is still without a contract but that's not going to hinder his motivation to play hockey during the 2021-22 season. Staal wants to continue his career and is waiting for his next contract to be offered to him.

Staal spoke to TSN's Pierre LeBrun and indicated he wants to play, but it will be in the United States. Last postseason with the Montreal Canadiens Staal turned back the clock at times and was an effective player. He recorded eight points in 21 playoff games.

The Minnesota Wild are at the top of Staal's list but at this time it's uncertain how much interest Wild general manager Bill Guerin has in signing him. Two other teams to consider are the Columbus Blue Jackets or Carolina Hurricanes who could bring Staal in potentially a little bit later in the season once someone goes down.

Look for the veteran centre to sign for one season and come in between the league minimum and $1 million. He's played 1293 career games, tallying 1034 points and doesn't want to stop anytime soon.
