Adam Larsson Likely Took Less Money To Join Seattle Kraken

According to Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Sun, Adam Larsson likely took less money to sign with the Seattle Kraken. The Edmonton Oilers offered Larsson a five-year deal, but the 28-year-old defenseman opted to sign a four-year, $16 million contract with Seattle.

It is safe to say that Larsson simply wanted a fresh start at this point. Unrestricted free agents normally do not take both less money and term, especially when it is from a different club. Therefore, it is apparent that Larsson wanted to join Seattle to a high degree. It is easy to understand why, as they are the league's newest franchise and will be watched very closely this season. Kraken fans also should be excited to have him around because of his desire to be there.

In 56 games this past season with the Oilers, Larsson scored four goals and had 10 points. Although his production is never that high, he is a shutdown defenseman who can keep up with the league's top offensive players. Edmonton will miss his presence on their blueline because of this.

In 603 career games between the New Jersey Devils and Oilers, Larsson has 25 goals, 112 assists and 137 points. We will have to wait and see how much he adds to these totals as a member of the Kraken.
