Artemi Panarin Admits Zero Interest in Rangers Captaincy

New York Rangers forward Artemi Panarin may be one of the Rangers best forwards but he doesn't want to be the leader. Panarin recently opened up about the vacant captaincy in New York and was quick to point out he has no interest in wearing the 'C'.

Panarin spoke to the media via NHL.com and had this to say on the leadership group:

I think we have more deserving candidates for that role now. Would I want it? I'd rather say no, actually. It's not just putting a letter on the sweater and walking around taking pictures. It's a lot of rough work in the locker room. And it's not just about playing good hockey. You also have to give your energy between the periods, motivate guys, giving interviews, being the face of the franchise. Overall, it's a lot of work off the ice. I think I'm more effective in hockey. And I'm afraid that I won't be an effective captain. I even don't speak English. How can I motivate? I can only influence with my own game. And they will listen to me without any letters

This quote certainly makes management's job easy as they won't be looking to their highest-paid player to wear the letter. He's been lights out since joining the Rangers, posting 153 points in 111 games. Look for the Rangers to consider Adam Fox and Chris Kreider for the 'C'.
