The Columbus Blue Jackets have locked up one of their goaltenders as the team announced they have signed Elvis Merzlikins to a five-year contract extension. The deal is worth $5.4 million annually and keeps Merzlikins in Ohio for the foreseeable future.

Last season the 27-year-old Latvia native recorded a 2.77 GAA and a .916 save % in 28 games. He split duties with Joonas Korpisalo and now things get interesting in Columbus as 'Korpi' is without a contract for next season. Judging by Merzlikins signing first, does this mean he's the goalie of the future? Can't imagine the Blue Jackets handing out the same contract to their other goalie and carrying that much money in their crease.
There's going to be a ton of trade interest now in Korpisalo as the Edmonton Oilers, Buffalo Sabres, and Detroit Red Wings will be looking to add him to their mix long-term.
Congrats on the new deal, Elvis. Turns out he's staying in the building for now...
