Boston Bruins: Best Addition And Worst Subtraction Of The Summer
Now that the off-season seems to be slowing down, we have a pretty good idea of every team's roster heading into this upcoming year. In this segment, we will be going over the best addition and worst subtraction for each of them. Something important to note is that players who were re-signed or given extensions will not be eligible for the "best addition" section. The same applies for 2021 draft picks.
In this piece, we will be discussing the Boston Bruins. The Bruins have made a lot of changes this off-season, but will they be better? They have many new additions who should certainly help them, but also have some notable departures. It will be fascinating to see where they end up in the very competitive Atlantic Division.
Best Addition: Linus Ullmark G
Although the addition of Nick Foligno is also an exciting one, Linus Ullmark has the potential to be their best addition. On a historically bad Buffalo team, Ullmark had a 9-6-3 record to go along with a 2.63 GAA and .917 SV%. He also had another strong season in 2019-20, he went 17-14-3 with a .915%. On a much stronger Boston team, it will be interesting to see how Ullmark performs. The Bruins have great two-way forwards Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand to help him on the penalty kill, while also having Charlie McAvoy and Brandon Carlo on the backend. This could be very beneficial for Ullmark.
Worst Subtraction: David Krejci C
The loss of David Krejci could be a disastrous one for the Bruins. At a minimum, it will be noticeable this upcoming season. He was their second-line center for a long time and was one of their best offensive weapons. This past season also was a particularly strong one for him, as he had eight goals and 44 points in 51 games. What also hurts the Bruins about him leaving is the fact that they failed to sign a true replacement for him. Although they added Erik Haula and Tomas Nosek, they are more noted as bottom-six centers. Furthermore, Charlie Coyle is coming off of a down year and is expected to take over Krejci's previous role.
Although Tuukka Rask has been open about returning, a new deal has not come into fruition. If he in fact does not come back when he recovers from his injury, he would be another notable loss.
