Buffalo Sabres Re-Sign Rasmus Dahlin

The Buffalo Sabres have re-signed defenseman Rasmus Dahlin to a three-year contract. It will have an average annual value of $6 million. At the time of its expiration, Dahlin will remain a restricted free agent with arbitration rights.

The Sabres selected Dahlin with the first overall pick of the 2018 NHL Entry Draft. In 56 games this past season, he scored five goals and had 23 points. He also had a -36 rating. However, although it was a down year for him, it's clear that Buffalo's struggles as a collective group played a big role in this.

Dahlin still has an immense amount of potential and should bounce back this season. Keep in mind, he had 40 points in 59 games the season before, so he has been successful offensively on the backend. He also scored nine goals and had 44 points in 82 games during his rookie season.

Both parties were wise to go down the bridge deal route. If Dahlin is able to take that next step as a player, this could be a real steal in the short-term for Buffalo. Furthermore, Dahlin would also be able to land himself a hefty raise in a few years as an RFA again.
