Buffalo Sabres: 2 Underrated Players To Watch
The NHL has so many underrated players who deserve far more recognition. In this segment, we will be discussing two from every team in the league. Their overall roles and abilities may differ, but they all share the common theme that they are not as respected as they ought to be.
For full transparency, two teams will be randomly picked from a wheel each day. The winners will then be discussed.
In today's first piece, we will be looking at the Buffalo Sabres. With the Sabres losing a lot of their top players this off-season after already being the worst team in the league, it is not hard to assume that they are in for another rough year. However, these two young forwards could end up being nice bright spots for them this season.
Anders Bjork LW: Anders Bjork was acquired by the Sabres in the Taylor Hall with the Boston Bruins. In Boston, Bjork never received full-time action with the NHL squad and often would be healthy scratched. He only appeared in 30 games this past season with them and had five points. However, after being traded to Buffalo, he was given more playing time and played well. In 15 games, he scored three goals and had six points. In his first full year with the team this upcoming season, he could put up some decent stats if given a prominent role.
Tage Thompson RW: Tage Thompson was a part of the infamous Ryan O'Reilly trade with the St. Louis Blues. There is no denying that the return the Sabres received from the Blues was far too low, but Thompson did have a decent 2020-21 season. In 38 games, he scored eight goals and had 14 points, which were both career-highs, while playing less games. He is showing some signs of improvement and Buffalo fans may be pleasantly surprised by him next season.
