Calgary Flames: 3 Players With Expiring Contracts

With the off-season almost completed, it feels right to take a preview into next year's. In this segment, we will be looking at three players from each team who have expiring contracts. Both restricted and unrestricted free agents are eligible for discussion.

In this piece, we will be looking at the Calgary Flames. They will be in for one busy summer, as they have multiple key players who have expiring contracts.

Johnny Gaudreau LW (UFA): Johnny Gaudreau has the chance to be an unrestricted free agent next summer. There's no denying that he's a very skilled winger, but it will be interesting to see what Calgary does with him this season. Although he has not matched 99-point campaign during the 2018-19 season, he still is a very solid scorer. His 49 points in 56 games this past season shows that perfectly.

Matthew Tkachuk LW/RW (RFA): Many view Matthew Tkachuk as the next captain of the Flames. It would not be surprising to see it come into fruition, as he has been an alternate captain for multiple seasons at just 23 years old. Not only does he produce well, but he also is constantly engaged in the physical side of the game as well. If Matthew ends up being opened to a long-term extension, they should absolutely make it happen.

Andrew Mangiapane LW/RW (RFA): Andrew Mangiapane may not be a star like Tkachuk and Gaudreau, but he certainly fits as a second-line forward. In 56 games this past season, he scored 18 goals and had 32 points. He tied his career-high in points from the season before, but did it in 12 less games this go-around. At just 25 years old, he still could get even better. Therefore, he is another key forward who they will need to deal with next summer.
