Calgary Flames Sign Erik Gudbranson

The Calgary Flames have signed Erik Gudbranson to a one-year, $1.95 million contract.

The Flames have some questions with their right side heading into this upcoming season, so it makes sense that they are bringing in Gudbranson. He will be competing for a spot on their bottom-pair and has a good shot of winning the job, especially at that cap hit.

In 45 games this past season between the Ottawa Senators and Nashville Predators, the 29-year-old defenseman scored a goal and had four points. Those stats are low, but he is not a player who will ever dominate the scoresheet. Rather, he is simply a defensive defenseman who will always engage in the physical side of the game.

In 563 career games between the Florida Panthers, Vancouver Canucks, Pittsburgh Penguins, Anaheim Ducks, Senators and Predators, Gudbranson has 21 goals, 56 assists and 77 points.
