Colorado Avalanche Dealt Brutal Injury News

The Colorado Avalanche will be starting the season shorthanded as the team will be without defenseman Devon Toews. The stud defenseman underwent shoulder surgery and at this point the timetable for his return is unknown.

Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar met with the media on Wednesday and had this to say about one of his team's best defenseman:

He's going to miss some games at the start of the regular season. I don’t have an exact timetable for him ... been skating, feeling great. He won’t be cleared for full contact until some time in the near future

Toews has been a beast since joining the Avs via trade from the New York Islanders. Colorado made some significant moves in the offseason and are happy to hear both Erik Johnson and Bowen Byram will be healthy enough to start the season after Toews has gone down and Ryan Graves, Patrik Nemeth and Conor Timmins have all moved on.

The 27-year-old Toews ranked first on the team in ice-time in 2020-21, he also chipped in nicely with nine goals and 22 helpers in 53 games. For now, he'll be watching from the press box.
