Columbus Blue Jackets: Best Addition And Worst Subtraction Of The Summer
Now that the off-season seems to be slowing down, we have a pretty good idea of every team's roster heading into this upcoming year. In this segment, we will be going over the best addition and worst subtraction for each of them. Something important to note is that players who were re-signed or given extensions will not be eligible for the "best addition" section. The same applies for draft picks from this year's NHL Entry Draft.
In this piece, we will be focusing on the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Blue Jackets lost some pretty significant players this off-season, but also were able to add some players who should benefit them in the future. It seems that they are inching closer to a full-on rebuild and it will be interesting to see how they end up performing this upcoming season.
Best Addition: Adam Boqvist D
Although Jakub Voracek is certainly a nice addition to the top-six, he has an expensive contract with multiple years left. Furthermore, one could argue that Adam Boqvist will turn into their best addition. The 21-year-old defenseman is already finding success in the NHL. In 35 games this season with the Chicago Blackhawks, he scored two goals and recorded 16 points. The 2018 eighth overall pick could end up blossoming into a true top-pair defenseman with his immense potential. Thus, he should be the player Columbus fans are most excited about.
Worst Subtraction: Seth Jones D
Even though it is nice they landed Boqvist, it was not for free. With Seth Jones directly stating that he planned to test the open market next off-season, Columbus had no choice but to trade him to the Blackhawks. In 56 games this past season, he scored five goals and recorded 28 points. It was a down year for his standards, but with a fresh start in Chicago, one should expect him to find his old offensive rhythm. It is always hard losing a top-pair defenseman, but the package they received for him should benefit Columbus in the long run.
Cam Atkinson is certainly another player worth noting. He spent the entirety of his NHL career with Columbus and was a fan favorite because of it.
