Curtis McElhinney Announces Retirement
Veteran goaltender Curtis McElhinney has announced his retirement from the NHL. When looking at his Instagram bio, it now states "Retired Pro Athlete."
The 38-year-old spent the last two seasons with the Tampa Bay Lightning. In 36 total games with the team, he had a 12-13-5 record and .895 SV%. He also of course landed himself two Stanley Cups in the process, so that was certainly not a bad way to go out.
Throughout his career, he was a journeyman who primarily held a backup role. He had stints with the Calgary Flames, Anaheim Ducks, Ottawa Senators, Phoenix Coyotes (before they switched to Arizona), Columbus Blue Jackets, Toronto Maple Leafs and Carolina Hurricanes before joining the Lightning to finish off his career.
In 249 games over 13 NHL seasons, McElhinney had a 94-95-20 record and .907 SV%. Overall, it was a nice career for him.
