Detroit Red Wings Re-Sign Givani Smith
The Detroit Red Wings have re-signed forward Givani Smith to a two-year contract.
Smith is currently trying to cement himself a permanent spot with the NHL roster. In 16 games this past season with them, he scored a goal and had three assists. He also played a very physical game, as evidenced by his 21 penalty minutes. This element should allow him to become a mainstay in their bottom-six this upcoming season.UPDATE: The Detroit #RedWings today re-singed left wing Givani Smith to a two-year contract.

He also suited up in 25 games with the Grand Rapid Griffins this past season, too. With them, he scored nine goals and recorded 15 total points.
The Red Wings originally selected Smith 46th overall during the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. In 37 total games with the NHL squad, he has three goals, four assists and seven points.
At just 23 years old, Smith could be a nice player for the Red Wings as they continue their rebuild. Expect to see him show real progression these next two seasons, as he should finally be given his first prolonged chance with Detroit. He seems ready.
