Detroit Red Wings Sign Veteran Winger to PTO
The Detroit Red Wings are not as committed to Bobby Ryan as last season but they still don't want to close the door, as the team has invited Ryan to training camp on a professional try out.
The non-guaranteed deal is a lot different than the $1 million one-way contract he was on last season when Ryan put up 14 points in 33 games. The team likes what Ryan can bring offensively and looks for him to be a mentor to the young group as he's certainly had some experience in the league and in life to share.
Ryan's season last year was cut short after he underwent surgery in April. The 2020 Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy winner is looking to make an impression in training camp and show Red Wings management he still has the legs to keep up in the league and can be a productive player for the team's top-six forward group. Ryan isn't the type of player who plays a checking role so it's either top-six or bust in Motown.
