Former NHLer Mikko Koivu Returning To Minnesota Wild

Mikko Koivu will be with the Minnesota Wild at the start of training camp next week, according to Michael Russo. His exact role with organization has yet to be announced by the team, though.

Koivu joining the team after his professional career just makes perfect sense. He was their captain for 11 straight seasons. He also is the franchise's all-time leader in games played, assists and points. Thus, he is such an important figure in their history.

Yet, he did not end his career in Minnesota, as he played seven games with the Columbus Blue Jackets last season before retiring. With them, he had a goal and an assist.

In 1,028 games with the Wild, he had 205 goals, 504 assists and 709 points. He produced that well while also being very strong defensively. With all of this, he should be a good influence on the Wild players moving forward. He played the game correctly in all areas.

It will be interesting to see what his specific job with the team will be. Keep an eye out for it.
