Golden Knights' Stone Wants to Keep Cross-Checking in NHL

Vegas Golden Knights captain Mark Stone is worried about the NHL's mandate to eliminate cross-checking, as the league has decided they will be cracking down on the infraction during the 2021-22 season.

Stone recently spoke to the media and admitted he's never shy to dish it out and he's also used to taking it, but doesn't want cross checking out of the game:

I'd be lying if I said I never cross-checked guys. Cross-checking has become almost natural in the game. I cross-check. I get cross-checked. That's just how it's been. But if they're trying to get rid of injuries, I can understand why they're doing it. It's a sensitive area. In the playoffs especially, it can get a little out of control. I don't know if it's that dangerous. There are definitely other things (I'd) like to see them crack down on as far as supplemental discipline, compared to cross-checking.

The NHL will be cracking down as the league recently promised tighter standard of enforcement of Rule 59, which governs cross-checking. It's not often a player gets suspended for a cross check, unless it's right to the face or head of another opponent. Look for the league to hold players more accountable this season, Stone included, and this is certainly going to be a story line to follow as the season progresses.
