Huge Update on Kirill Kaprizov's Future With Minnesota Wild
Minnesota Wild general manager Bill Guerin has been trying all summer to sign restricted free agent Kirill Kaprizov to a new contract. Talks have gone no where and now it's getting down to crunch time as training camp looms. As it stands right now, don't expect to see Kaprizov in a Wild jersey anytime soon.
Guerin recently spoke to The Athletic's Michael Russo and admitted things don't look good for the two sides at the moment:
There are going to be some obstacles. I will say this, we are at a point where we feel we're being extremely fair. How far apart are we? Not very, but sometimes those can be the things that take a while. I mean, that's the way I see it. You could ask (Kaprizov's agent) Paul (Theofanous) or Kirill and they might say something very different. We've made a very fair offer, and that's just where we are
Yikes, it certainly sounds like a game of hard ball. As for Kaprizov, he's coming off a Calder Trophy winning season where he posted 27 goals and 51 points in 55 games. Look for the two sides to reach an agreement sometime before puck drops on opening night.
