Longtime New Jersey Devils Travis Zajac Retires
Travis Zajac has signed a one-day contract with the New Jersey Devils and is retiring from the NHL.
The Devils selected Zajac 20th overall in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft and he would play all but 13 of his career regular season games with them. The Devils traded him and Kyle Palmieri at the deadline this past season. As an Islander, Zajac had a goal and an assist. He also had identical stats in the postseason, but in 14 games. In his 33 games with the Devils this past season, he scored seven goals and had 18 points.Travis Zajac calls it a career.

But he’s just getting started in Jersey.

Zajac will always be remembered for his time with the Devils. In 1,024 games over 15 seasons with them, he had 202 goals, 348 assists and 550 points. In two of those seasons, he had over 60 points and 20 goals. As his career progressed, his offensive numbers dropped a bit, but he was still a very effective two-way player and leader for the Devils.
He will also be staying with the organization in a player development and consulting role.
Nonetheless, we'd like to congratulate Travis on a very good career. Happy retirement!
