Los Angeles Kings: Best Addition And Worst Subtraction Of The Summer
Now that the off-season seems to be slowing down, we have a pretty good idea of every team's roster heading into this upcoming year. In this segment, we will be going over the best addition and worst subtraction for each of them. Something important to note is that players who were re-signed or given extensions will not be eligible for the "best addition" section. The same applies for picks from this year's NHL Entry Draft.
In this piece, we will be focusing on the Los Angeles Kings. It was a pretty solid off-season for them, as they made a few notable additions and look better on paper. They also did not lose anyone too big from their roster, so they are in good shape. They will be banking on their young players to improve from last season. With the Pacific Division not being too deep, perhaps the Kings could claw themselves back into the postseason.
Best Addition: Phillip Danault C
Viktor Arvidsson certainly works this section because he's a strong bounce back candidate and is a solid second-liner. However, for now, Phillip Danault seems like the correct choice. In 53 games this past season, he scored five goals and recorded 24 points. His offensive totals were lower than in previous seasons, but he was fantastic defensively. He is going to a great addition to their penalty kill and also has the ability to produce more offensively. Keep in mind, he had 53 points during the 2018-19 season and then 47 the following year. An honorable mention also should go out to veteran defenseman, Alexander Edler.
Worst Subtraction: Kurtis MacDermid D
The Kings did not lose anyone too significant this off-season. Kurtis MacDermid stands out as their worst subtraction. The 27-year-old defenseman was selected by the Kraken, but then traded to the Colorado Avalanche shortly after. In 28 games this past season with LA, he scored two goals and had four points. However, his toughness and overall physicality will be missed. Even if he was not a mainstay in their top-six, he was a very solid depth option for them.
