Maple Leafs Goaltender Admits No More Excuses
The Toronto Maple Leafs are expecting big things out of their team this season and goaltender Jack Campbell is no different. The newfound number one goalie in Toronto knows it's time to put up or shut up for the Leafs.
Campbell had himself a fine season in 2020-21 and stole the #1 job from long-time starter Frederik Andersen. He went on to put up historic numbers and at one point looked unbeatable in the regular season. Campbell finished with a 2.15 GAA and a .912 save % and walks into this season knowing he will be sharing the net with new addition Petr Mrazek. Campbell is very satisfied with the talent in Toronto and knows the time is now for the team to get over the hump:
There's no doubt in the desire to win and the things we're willing to do and just how much we care as a group. We're with the fans. We want it so bad. There's no excuses. We're using it to fuel us, and I think you'll see that, and you'll see it this season with the way we come out this year. Ultimately, I had some personal success. But honestly, winning in the playoffs, that's our goal
The Maple Leafs two netminders were two of the best in the NHL last season and both are on very affordable contracts with Campbell making $1.65 million and Mrazek making $3.8 million. No other team in the league has two goalies with this much talent making this little on the cap. It could be a magical season in Toronto and it all starts on October 13 against the Montreal Canadiens.
