Maple Leafs' Robertson Opens Up About Fighting For His Life

Toronto Maple Leafs forward Nicholas Robertson is a fighter and he's been that way since birth. Robertson was born 10-to-12 weeks premature and his lungs weren't fully functioning or developed. It was a weird day for the Robertson family as they battled with their son throughout each step of the scary fight, and the terrorist attacks on 9/11 were taking place in the background.

Robertson recently spoke with Kevin McGran of the Toronto Star and had this to say about his birthday not being the same as others:

With the tragedy that was happening then, people were fighting for their lives, but I was fighting for my life too, ironically. But the circumstances were different. They told him about the plane hitting the towers. And then one by one, they let my dad go in front of them to donate blood. My birthday doesn't seem like a birthday. It's more a memorial in recognition of the tragedy that happened that day

Robertson is going to be given a serious look at training camp for the Maple Leafs. He's an elite shooter with blazing speed, and a strong work ethic which head coach Sheldon Keefe loves. If he has a good camp and puts up some points in the preseason, Robertson is going to make the team. While he would never admit it, if Robertson can make Leafs Nation forget about Zach Hyman, he's going to be wearing the Blue and White for a very long time.
