Minnesota Wild Announce New Alternate Captains

With the Minnesota Wild buying out Ryan Suter and Zach Parise this off-season, they needed to pick new alternates captain. Now, they have done just that. Marcus Foligno and Matt Dumba will be taking on the roles.

Foligno, a 604-game NHL veteran, has seen his significance to the team continue to grow each year. In 39 games this past season, he scored 11 goals and recorded 26 points. He also has become a mainstay on their penalty kill and also works on their power play. Overall, it makes sense for him to take on a leadership role, as he is a heart-and-soul player who provides a bit of everything. His brother, Nick, was of course also captain of the Columbus Blue Jackets previously.

Dumba was previously in the rumor mill this off-season, as he was expected to be taken by the Kraken. However, the Suter buyout allowed him to be protected and now, he is going to be an alternate captain. It's funny how things can change so quickly. Nonetheless, Dumba has spent the entirety of his 462-game career with the Wild, so this makes sense. He is one of their best defensemen as well, as he is not only reliable in his own end, but also is capable of producing offense. In 51 games last season, he scored six goals and had 21 points.
