Montreal Canadiens Will Not Name New Captain
Even though Shea Weber is expected to miss at least the entirety of this season, the Montreal Canadiens will not be naming an interim captain, according to general manager Marc Bergevin.
Earlier this off-season, he also stated that Weber probably won't ever be back because of multiple injuries.Marc Bergevin sur la possibilité de nommer un capitaine par intérim.

There is certainly no rush to name a new captain at this point for Montreal. Although there is a legitimate chance Weber's playing days may be over, things can change suddenly. If his injuries truly expect him to miss next season as well, it would make more sense them to contemplate their next options.Marc Bergevin says Shea Weber has several injuries (ankle, foot, knee, thumb). "Even missing a practice for him wasn't an option. He has a lot of mileage...He won't be back next season, and probably won't be back for his career."

Since being acquired by the Nashville Predators during the 2016 off-season, Weber has been an integral piece of their blueline. This naturally made him become captain after the Canadiens traded Max Pacioretty to the Vegas Golden Knights before the start of the 2018-19 season.
In 48 games this season, Weber scored six goals and recorded 19 points. He also followed that up with six points in 22 postseason games. Those certainly are not bad statistics for a player who has been dealing with multiple serious injuries.
If this truly marks the end of Weber's career, he had a fantastic one. In 1,038 games, he had 224 goals, 365 assists and 589 points.
