New York Islanders: 3 Players With Expiring Contracts

With the off-season almost completed, it feels right to take a preview into next year's. In this segment, we will be looking at three players from each team who have expiring contracts. Both restricted and unrestricted free agents are eligible for discussion.

In this piece, we will be looking at the New York Islanders. This was a crazy summer for the team, as they had to re-sign a bunch of their key players. They also signed veterans Zdeno Chara and Zach Parise to one-year deals, too. Next season should be a bit less hectic for them, but they do have a few key players with expiring deals.

Ryan Pulock D (UFA): Ryan Pulock is the expiring contract that the Islanders will need to focus most on. He's forms an amazing pair with Adam Pelech and has blossomed into an integral piece of the team. In 56 games this past season, he scored two goals and had 17 points. That was pretty solid production from the backend, but more importantly, he was immensely dependable in his own end. With Pulock being a potential unrestricted free agent, the Islanders should work quickly to get him locked up on an extension.

Noah Dobson D (RFA): Noah Dobson had a very solid second season with the Islanders. In 46 games, the 2018 first-round pick scored three goals and recorded 14 points. The 21-year-old will be a restricted free agent, so the Islanders will have more control over him. Still though, due to the fact that he has a lot of potential and is continuing to improve, his next deal is very important, too.

Cal Clutterbuck RW (UFA): Cal Clutterbuck is in the final year of his contract. He's been a nice part of their fourth-line because of his hard style of play and solid work ethic. The Islanders have already re-signed his linemates, Casey Cizikas and Matt Martin, to long-term deals. Perhaps Clutterbuck will be able to get re-signed because of this, too. He would likely have to make less than his current $3.5 million cap hit, though. In 50 games this past season, the 33-year-old winger scored four goals and had seven assists.
