New York Islanders: Best Addition And Worst Subtraction Of The Summer

Now that the off-season seems to be slowing down, we have a pretty good idea of every team's roster heading into this upcoming year. In this segment, we will be going over the best addition and worst subtraction for each of them. Something important to note is that players who were re-signed or given extensions will not be eligible for the "best addition" section. The same applies for picks from this year's NHL Entry Draft.

In this piece, we will be focusing on the New York Islanders. The Islanders were able to re-sign many key players, but did lose a few notable ones in the process. They still look like a deep team heading into the season, though. After back-to-back losses in the Eastern Conference Final, they will be as hungry as ever to go all the way this go-around.

Best Addition: Zach Parise LW

The specific details of Zach Parise's contract have yet to be released, but he will be on the Islanders next season. The 37-year-old winger was almost traded there two years ago at the deadline, but the deal fell through. In 45 games this past season with the Minnesota Wild, he scored seven goals and had 18 points. He also scored two goals and added an assist in four playoff games. During the 2019-20 season, he also had 25 goals and 46 points in 69 games, so he still could be a solid offensive addition for the team. It is easy to assume that he signed for cheap as well, so this should be a real win for the Islanders.

Worst Subtraction: Nick Leddy D

Losing Jordan Eberle to the Seattle Kraken stings, as he's a solid top-six winger in this league. However, the departure of Nick Leddy may be more significant. The Islanders re-signed Kyle Palmieri and Anders Lee will be back, so they will be fine on offense. In 56 games last season with the Islanders, Leddy scored two goals and had 29 assists. He has the ability to produce well offensively from the backend, but also stay reliable defensively. His departure makes the left side of the Islanders' defense look a bit weaker heading into the season. The Red Wings will certainly benefit from his arrival.
