New York Rangers: 3 Candidates To Be Named Next Captain
At this said time, there are six teams who do not have a captain. Thus, in this short segment, we will be discussing three players from each team who could end up being given this honor. It is important to note that there is a chance that some of these teams may hold off from naming one. Yet, it is still entertaining to go over their options.
In this piece, we will be looking at the New York Rangers. They have not had a captain since they traded Ryan McDonagh during the 2017-18 season. Yet, with the team on the rise, it seems like the perfect time for this to change. They have plenty of options to go through, but let's focus on these specific three.
Mika Zibanejad C: If Mika Zibanejad is signed to an extension by the Rangers, he should be considered heavily as their next captain. He's blossomed into a true number one center these last three seasons and is an immensely integral piece of the team. It's never a bad thing to select a center to be captain.
Chris Kreider LW: Chris Kreider has spent his entire NHL career with the Rangers. He's suited up in 573 games for them and has become a leader in the process. Although he is not the biggest star on their biggest star, he is a veteran who has remained loyal to the organization. He also was a part of both the Rangers' time as contenders and then rebuild. Thus, he is a definite candidate.
Jacob Trouba D: Jacob Trouba has been praised often for his leadership, so he also stands a good shot. Although he is only 27 years old, he has already played 516 games over his career. He may not have won the Norris Trophy like Adam Fox, but he is their biggest leader on the backend.
