Nikita Scherbak Is Heading To Slovakia

Nikita Scherbak's NHL comeback attempt has come to an end. The former first-round pick is now heading to Slovakia, as he has signed with HC Banska Bystrica.

Scherbak was originally selected 26th overall by the Montreal Canadiens during the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. However, he was unable to blossom into the top-six forward that many believed he could. Over two seasons with the NHL club, he only skated in 29 games, where he had five goals and two assists.

He then played for the Los Angeles Kings during the 2018-19 season, but that was short-lived. In eight games with the team, he scored a goal and spent the majority of the year in the AHL. He went on to play two seasons in the KHL before joining the Texas Stars this past season. With them, he scored five goals and had 15 points in 28 games.

In 37 career NHL games, Scherbak had six goals and eight points. It's interesting to think that the pick before him was David Pastrnak.

Nonetheless, Scherbak should have plenty of chances in Slovakia.
