Pittsburgh Penguins: 2 Trade Rumors Following the Team

The Pittsburgh Penguins enter their first full season with general manager Ron Hextall and president of hockey operations Brian Burke at the helm. The team is in win-now mode and anything less than a Stanley Cup will be a disappointment. Expect the team to make some in-season adjustments and these two trade rumors could come to fruition for the Pens in 2021-22.

Penguins Make Splash Acquiring Matthew Tkachuk

Once the news dropped that Tkachuk may be looking to get out of Calgary, Burke's ears perked up who was with Calgary when they drafted the rugged winger. The rumored deal would be Jake Guentzel plus for Tkachuk as the Penguins would love to add his sandpaper to the lineup. Guentzel is a goal scoring machine who has blossomed perfectly playing with Sidney Crosby. It's likely someone like John Marino or Marcus Pettersson would also be included in this deal to make it work for the Flames.

Penguins Trying to Trade Pettersson

The Penguins are in salary cap hell and before ex-gm Jim Rutherford left in the night, he signed Pettersson to a rich four-year extension worth $4.02 million per season and now Burke and Hextall are stuck with it. There's been talk all summer the team tried to get the Seattle Kraken to take it off their hands but couldn't sweeten the pot enough. Look for the Penguins to revisit trading Pettersson once he shows some flashes of brilliance this season.
